According to a Global Aging statistics Senior Citizens of over 60years old are 1 in 10 people. It is also estimated that by 2050 people over 60years old will out number the younger generation. In the light of this increasing population of elderly persons, society must begin to plan for how to care for her Senior Citizens. Don’t forget that these are the years when they are out of active workforce and are dependent on others for care.
Many times people do not even know where to turn to to get adequate care for their older family members. Personally my mum is hypertensive and she has a scheduled visit to the hospital monthly and my father just underwent a surgery that cost some good money. My mum’s check up and drugs requires funds which we, her children have to provide. Thanks to my sister who works at a hospital and monitors her check ups and makes access to her drugs easy on the rest of us. But many times the burden can be much and just recently we were talking about getting our parents an insurance health care cover at a geriatric health center, the first of it’s kind in Nigeria. So here i am trying to share this information with you; it just might be what someone is looking for.
If you happen to be looking for an all round inclusive care for your aging parents, family or friends, then Chief Tony Anenih Geriatric Center, University Teaching College in Ibadan is the place you need to visit. I hear there is provision for a yearly insurance cover for the elderly.
